Hobo Shoestring
Приєднався 25 сер 2012
I've been riding freight trains since 1989 and have since ridden over 2,700,000 of steel rails in 49 USA states, eight provinces of Canada and 14 states in Mexico.
I spent my first 31 years homeless riding trains then last year I had to get a small apartment because of medical issues. It's very hard having walls and a roof because I prefer to be outside. I still stay gone riding more than I stay in the little apartment.
Doing my best after getting hit by a car December 13 and ran over by a train October 2017. Hand and arm healed quite well!
I now have a merchandise website at the below link:

R.I.P Shoestring .
R.I.P Shoestring .
Wait he died? Oh no. Was going to say riding the train in this video sounded a lot like he was behind a steam engine. But now I’m just dad
what happenned to him... ?? he seems fine here...
LoL That is what we said in the USAF - Why not Minot?
I am just now seeing this. I realized I hadn't seen any new videos from Shoestring. My heartaches finding out he has passed. Watching his videos made me feel like I was on the train with him. My condolences to his family and friends.
This video was all in Montana? Except I know Williston is ND. ..pretty countryside.
R.i.p. traveler.. ❤😢
I watched so many of Shoestrings videos and enjoyed seeing the country with him. I’m sorry he is gone but he will not be forgotten…or replaced. It’s really hard to rewatch his travels. God Bless his soul.
ST will wind up in memory on levels akin 2 Stobe me thinks
RIP ST, prayers all kk said it mean it TY ST :)
Still can’t believe it really. I don’t think I’ve ever missed someone who has filmed on UA-cam so much. I’m nowhere near his life. I work in airfreight at London Heathrow UK but regularly looked forward to Marks latest story. Sometimes I got into the footage so much I forgot where I was. Does anyone know the cause of death yet?
So very cool!
Any new videos coming out soon?
He is dead.
Old, worn out suit and shoes I don't pay no union dues
this must be the oldest of his videos that I have seen.
Only just found out about this man and his adventures!! Now I see us has just passed away! So sad. May he REST in peace ✌GOD bless him and his family and friends!!! May be ride the heavens railways!!!! Keep on travelling sir. Shoestring/ Mark Nicholls... Love from Shaun of Wales UK!
I get dry thinking I can handle a drink but it is a magical medicine reliever of all pain and sorrow then I just drink too much not always but eventually
Bless you and yours @TheHoboShoestring sir , VALE 🫡✌️✊🇭🇲
I cant believe I only just found out. I had wondered why he hadnt uploaded in a while. RIP shoestring
What a pioneer ❤❤❤
Omg Shoestring was in my hometown my grandfather and uncle worked for the Railroad my wife's grandfather dad and uncles all worked together at Battle creek Grand Trunk R.I.P Shoestring my grandma lived along Bellview Rd Grand Trunk Rail road is behind the house I remember in the mid 90's a train hobo came and knocked on the door seeing if they could get water grandma gave him water and we fed him dinner wonder if that was Ol Shoestring R.I.P
I just came to check the channel and found out…. I’m starting to wander with just a pack on my back and was coming to see which kind of bed pad he said he liked…. I don’t even know what to say. I’m so heartbroken and I swear I’ll be one of the few younger who keep that sort of lifestyle alive. I’ve spent the last 4 months living in the moment and wandering the mountains with nothing and no plan and I feel alive again. I hadn’t realized what an inspiration for it all he’s been until now. Videos included because what I envision is similar to his videos. I want to capture the peace of being alone and left to your own devices to wander. I think he always just showed us his surroundings and how beautiful and peaceful they are even though for most it’s a few trees by the tracks when you slow down and live the way you’re supposed to how little it takes to be where a person is meant to be. It’s a gift and you can find it anywhere. RIP shoestring. I see your tags out here in Montana but they’ll be the markings of a legend from now on. I wish I had slowed down and appreciated you sooner maybe I would have met you. I know I would have honestly. You are a gleaming flake of gold in the granite and your videos are timeless and priceless. There is a heavy loss in my chest
It's just not Shoestring without the beard.
The little squiggle lines is a sine curve. Each overlappjng curve represents one "leg" or "phase" of alternating current. The current alternates between it's positive peak voltage, and it's negative peak voltage. I know that. But Shoe knows the feel of it on a freight train, and I don't. So I think he wins.
Rest easy Shoestring. A genuine human being right here in Hobo Shoestring. Not many honest down to earth folk left like Shoestring. My sincere condolences to Shoestring’s family and friends.
Rest in peace shoestring
Hope his family has access to his UA-cam, still making money…. So sad to hear of his passing… he had his own little paradise, awesome apartment on the lake!
Good video you are missed by so many R.I.P
Rest in peace shoe strain you gonna be well Miss
Every train i see reminds me of you and that I should live before it's over.
I can't believe he's gone. RIP.
Rip shoestring you are missed my eccentric brother
RIP Shoestring 🚂 gone too soon.
I’m commenting from Dayton Ohio at this moment while visiting the US Air Force museum and remembering Shoestring. The many train tracks crossed on this cross country trip is a solid reminder of these videos full of stories from him. We all miss him.

RIP Shoestring 🚂🇬🇧
I believe they call it thermoplastic😊...
I hope Shoestring is riding the Cadillac of boxcars up in heaven now, just discovered his channel recently, R.I.P. Shoestring
Hobo shoestring had guts and he loved adventure, God rest his soul. I may ride myself, I’ve been inspired even though I know hobo shoestring was not a true hobo, he simply loved the adrenaline rush, the adventure, the new experiences. Shoestring wanted all he could get from this life and the earth he lived on. I am 67 years old, I’ve done nothing but work to survive, to feed my family first a foremost. I do not regret the 50 years I worked. I had a few vacations, I had a nice home, nice cars, an abundance of food however I never traveled outside the south eastern states and that was simply family visits, week long vacations and I drove a tractor trailer throughout the south eastern states. I seen it through a windshield at night. I have respect for someone who grabs a hold of their desires, goals, and ambition allowing nothing to get in their way of achieving the life they desire. Shoestring grabbed life and achieved what he desired and that was the RIDE.
Safe travels, Shoestring. You are missed.
Here' my ***FAVORITE HOBO!!*** Sure do think of & miss you lot's buddy!
His train trips up North past the Great Lakes inspired me (artwork). He had the boxcar door open, and was riding the breeze on a sunny day past them. He framed that beautiful scene perfectly with his video.
Rip King of the Hobo's
Word from the wise; Gang NEVER camp under or near a high power Broadcast Antenna installation. Mark lead a dangerous life for sure. R.I.P. 'Shoestring'.
